We’re all used to seeing “Caution: Wet Floor” yellow signs around a freshly-mopped floor (or, for those of us in the legal world, on a personal injury attorney’s website). Then there’s the famous banana peel on the floor to indicate the potential for a slip-and-fall or, for the Billy Madison fans, to signal the end of the O’Doyle family….
I came across these fun caution signs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi that combine the traditional “Caution: Wet Floor” or “Slippery When Wet” signs with the banana visual. These were at several tourist destinations like the Atlantis hotel, The Green Planet, Ferrari World, etc. – yet instead of taking photos of these beautiful locations, there I was huddled over a puddle snapping pictures of a Caution: Wet Floor banana sign… and loving every minute of it.
As a lawyer/attorney, I often see Caution: Wet Floor or Slippery When Wet signs on personal injury or insurance defense attorneys’ websites to advertise their services (along with photos of caution tape, people with an arm in a cast, a traffic cone, construction equipment, etc.). Most attorneys are not all that creative and will use the same type of photos on their website. I think these would be perfect as they combine the ‘danger’ element with the playfulness of the banana shape of the signs.
There’s something altogether comical about huddling over a puddle of water at the Atlantis: The Palm waterpark while dozens of people run past you (dripping water as they go… hence, the puddle) to get to the next waterslide. Ironically, everyone ignores the Caution: Wet Floor! signs that I’m struggling to get photos of (without dozens of people running by in the background). Maybe it’s my fault for blocking the signs and thus setting them up for a slippery floor as they run by… but the whole time I’m squatting by a sign, I could only think to myself… “this is bananas.”
